Career Preparation (Co-Op) provides opportunities for students to participate in a work- based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with paid business and industry employment experiences and supports strong partnerships among school, business, and community stakeholders. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a fast-changing workplace. Students are taught employability skills, which include job skills, job interview techniques, communication skills, financial and budget activities, human relations, and portfolio development. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
Students must be at least 16 years old, and a Junior or Senior standing, and complete a Career Preparation Enrollment Form. Attendance and Discipline will be reviewed. Students must be employed in approved training positions by the beginning of the school year. Training station positions should be held for the entire school year. Co-Op students must work a minimum amount of hours per week to meet the state requirement for the school year to receive the credit for the course. The amount of hours will depend on the number of work periods a student has in their schedule. The majority of these hours should be worked during the week. (10 hours - with 7 of these Monday-Friday or 15 hours - with 10 of these Monday-Friday). The training station must be within a 20 mile radius of Brenham High School (525 A.H. Ehrig Drive Brenham, TX 77833). Students must maintain reports on hours worked per week and wages received each pay period. The student's employer/supervisor will evaluate the student's Co-Op work experience each six weeks. Maintaining passing grades in all classes, meeting minimum work hour requirements, and maintaining required reports is crucial to be successful in this program.
