AJ Expectations

Be Respectful

Be Responsible

Be Safe

Be Kind

Mrs. Kearsley's Expectations:

  • Be Respectful - Respect yourself and others. Every student is given an opportunity to learn without another student interrupting.

  • Be Responsible - Complete your assignments, clean up your mess and take ownership of your behavior.

  • Be Safe - Make safe choices to ensure no one is emotionally or physically hurt.

  • Be Kind- Use kind words and actions towards others.

However, each year the students collaborate in creating "Our Classroom Contract" specifying what other 5 agreements of expectations that are the most important to our entire class.

Classroom Philosophy

Growth Mindset

In my classroom students are encouraged to have a growth mindset. This is the idea that, with effort and a positive attitude, it's possible to increase intelligence levels, talents, and abilities.

It's understanding that student's need to change from a fixed "I can't" mindset to a growth "what if.." mindset.

BREAK & Zones of Regulation

I believe it is important for students to be able to have a space to regulate their minds, bodies and emotions so, they can be the best learner possible. Therefore, I encourage breaks (5-10 min) if needed so learners can readjust and refocus. In this area students go through the process of BREAK and using the Zones of Regulation tools. I love movement/brain breaks! In the classroom we are up moving every 20-30 minutes.

BREAK & Zones of Regulation Explained

B-Breathe: Take 5 deep breaths.

R- Reflect: Think about the situation.

E- Emotions: How do you feel?

A- Access: Access your strategies.

K- Know: Know your options.

Students will also determine their Zone(s) of Regulation and how to use tools to stay in the Green Zone (ready to learn).
