My name is Kayleen Goddard and this is my 15th year of teaching in Bremerton School District and my 12th year at Mountain View Middle School. I am teaching Squire 101 and Leadership this year. Squire 101 is going to focus on career exploration and skills that one needs in order to achieve their goals for school and beyond. 6th grade students have so much to share and I learn from each of them every day. Leadership will be focused on learning about the traits of leaders, finding one's own leadership traits, researching leaders of interest, etc. Leadership is a combined multi-grade class.
I chose a different path to my career path than many and went to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard between my junior year and senior year of high school, returning after high school graduation. The shipyard sent me to Olympic College for some required coursework. I returned to OC to finish my AAS when our son was starting college... many years later. Upon graduation from OC, I transferred to Washington State University to complete my bachelor's degree and graduated the same day our son graduated from Texas A&M. My masters degree was finished next. Achieving something I had previously thought was not going to happen in my lifetime was the result of changing my "fixed mindset" to a "growth mindset".
I never thought college was in my future because I was the student who had to work hard for average grades and was easily overlooked by my teachers because I was quiet. I want all students to "be seen" and heard in my classroom. Every student has strengths and we need to use those strengths to grow and be the best version of ourselves! This is why I teach!
My husband and I have three grown children, and three grandchildren! We enjoy traveling with our family and friends, exploring new places. My hobby is creating desserts for friends and family, especially those that are traditional to my family's ethnic heritage. I also enjoy working in my yard. But, I really enjoy my grandkids!
