Hey There!
Welcome to my site. I have been a teacher at Bremerton High School since 2005. I started my teaching career in 2000 at Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA and moved to the Olympic Peninsula in 2003 to teach at Peninsula High School in Purdy, WA. I graduated with honors from Boise State University in Boise, ID with a degree in Communication-Training & Development & a Business Minor. I also played for the Bronco Football team as a four-year letter winner and four-year Academic All-Conference. My junior year we went to the National Championship but came up a little short against Youngstown State. When I graduated from BSU, I got a job back in Washington State at the Boeing Company where I was a Customer Account Representative for about 70 small European airlines. While working at Boeing, I decided I enjoyed working with young people and coaching football and went back to school to be a teacher. I earned my Masters in Education from Seattle-Antioch University and began my career as a teacher.
My main subject is Math but I have also taught English in my time as a teacher. Geometry has been my primary class at BHS. I love it because it is a different way of looking at math that allows students to "think" rather than just "do". I've also taught Algebra, Algebra 2 & a course that is designed to help Seniors who have struggled with the State Testing requirement to meet that standard. I miss teaching English sometimes but love helping students to "not hate" math.
My style of teaching is a little different than most Math teachers because I often approach the subject from an English teacher angle (Geometry pun intended). 🙂 I focus a lot on making the students arrive at the answer themselves rather than have me give it to them. This can be frustrating to some students but it is the best way to have the information "stick". I encourage students to take risks and make mistakes because we often learn best from our mistakes. If students just trust me and trust themselves, they will be just fine.
