Pottery

Welcome to Bremerton High School Pottery and all things Ceramic site!

Hi! My name is Erik Painter. Welcome to the website for my BHS pottery and ceramic materials classes.

All my classes are in room 129 on the first floor at the far end of the hall.

I am looking forward to getting to know you this year in class! I will be teaching pottery in periods 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th this year.  Five classes of ceramics! I also have a class of 2026 Knight Skills class.

I will also be behind the scenes running the kilns, mixing glazes and doing all sorts of studio tech work to keep the flow of clay going.

And.. I am keeping the studio open most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons until 4. Come by and make something out or clay. Or create any art you wish in a supportive atmosphere.

I love pottery! I took my first class when I was 7 or 8 at a community clay place where my mom took me and have been learning about all things clay and ceramic history and science ever since.

For 12 years I owned and ran my own pottery school in Pioneer Square. We had about 80 students who were both teens and adults, 4 teachers, 5 kilns, 14 wheels and a small gallery. Now I am teaching at Bremerton High School.

The world of pottery is much larger than many people realize. Humans have been making things out of clay and firing them to a ceramic since at least 24,000 BCE. Many worlds cross through the area of ceramics. There is geology, physics and chemistry; art history, archaeology, and anthropology;  craft, skill and technique; and art, design and aesthetic theory; and much more!  The study of ceramic material science is also cutting edge engineering.

"The Future is handmade!"

I hope to share my excitement for the world of pottery, design, and craft with you.
