Before a person can take charge of how media impacts his or her life, he or she needs to understand the composition of media. In other words, what elements serve as the raw materials of media? Digital media is made up of six elements: image, sound, space, time, motion, and sequence.
The purpose of this lesson is to expose students to the elements that constitute media. Ultimately, the goal is for students to realize that digital media is a fabricated product that results from a series of choices.
Students will create a screencast. The screencast will involve their voice commenting on how the six elements are used in a clip from the feature film The Wizard of Oz.
