The PSAP Program
Breakthrough's Schoolwide Postsecondary Schoolwide Advising Program (PSAP) is a year-round advising program that supports students to realize their postsecondary goals by providing direct advising services to every junior and senior at a campus.
We serve ALL students. When PSAP says college, we include pursuing any postsecondary education pathway that allows a student to attain a credential, certificate, diploma, or enrollment in the military while pursuing their passions and preparing for their career. The terms ‘college,’ ‘higher education,’ and ‘postsecondary’ are used interchangeably.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Breakthrough’s Schoolwide Postsecondary Advising Program (PSAP) supports students in realizing their postsecondary goals. The foundation of Breakthrough’s schoolwide program includes two pillars: (1) supporting students and (2) supporting the high schools they attend.
First, the Schoolwide PSAP program provides high-quality advising and college and career experiences to every 11th and 12th-grade student at participating high schools. The advising services and experiences are delivered by Breakthrough advisors at a low advisor-to-student ratio and by existing counseling and advising resources on campus. Upon graduation, students receive up to six years of enrollment and persistence support from Breakthrough’s college completion advisors until they successfully obtain a certificate or diploma.
Second, the program supports participating high schools to become high-quality, college-access institutions for students traditionally marginalized from postsecondary experiences. Through a rigorous co-design process, Breakthrough staff collaborate with administrators, faculty, students, and families to create the school systems, structures, and culture that support every student to access postsecondary education and attain their goals. Schools demonstrating excellence in providing the PSAP Program become Breakthrough Certified Postsecondary Access Schools.
