2021-2022

Welcome to Fourth Grade! I am looking forward to a wonderful year! In order to ensure that we are all on the same page, I have prepared a list of important things that you will need to know as we begin this school year! I hope that you find this to be helpful. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions that you may think of along the way!

Classroom ABC’s

Attendance - Daily attendance is important for a successful 4th grade experience. If your child is ill, please let the office know via phone or email, that he/she will be absent. Please refer to your handbook for any questions.

Behavior Policy- Please see the attached discipline plan.

Birthdays – Stay tuned to see if we will be bring in birthday treats due to COVID.

Classroom Rules

  1. Be Safe

  2. Be Respectful

  3. Be Responsible

Drop Off and Pick Up- Please let me know how your child will be picked up and let know anytime it changes!

Email- My email address is obrooker@brcsd.org Please feel free to email me any time.

Folders - Students LLAMA folder will come home every night. This will be the folder that your child will be coming home with each day. This will consist of homework, letters, personal notes, weekly newsletter, etc. Please check these folders daily and sign your child’s agenda EVERYDAY that you read it! Any notes, forms, payments or orders should be placed in the take home folder. Any money should be in an envelope with the child's name and purpose for the payment.

Gum - Chewing gum is not allowed, however, there are times in Writing where I will allow the children to chew sugarless gum. Statistics show children focus more and keep quieter during writing while chewing gum.

Homework - Students in fourth grade are responsible for recording their own homework on a daily basis. They are expected to write their assignments in their planner and transport the planner to and from school daily.

Illness - If your child is sick, please keep them at home. Not only do we not want to share germs, but your child will not be at his/her best while trying to learn. Sick children should be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Incentives

*Tickets: Students may earn tickets by getting a 100 on a test, for good behavior, etc. At the end of the week, I will pull names from the tickets for students to get a prize.

* Praise: I will give air high-fives, thumbs-up, and verbal praise throughout the day.

This is my way of saying “thank you” for trying your best! I use a lot of positive reinforcement in my classroom!

*New incentives are periodically added and tailored to maintain motivation. Some students might also receive individual incentives to work towards tailored towards their academic/behavior needs.

Juice/Milk Order- If students are interested in ordering juice/milk, please send money in an envelope with their name on it.

Kindness- Kindness is very important in my classroom! It is a BULLY FREE ZONE!

Lunch - Our lunchtime is 11:55-12:25. You should have already received information about lunches. If you have not received this please let us know so we can get that to you.

Manners- Manners are stressed in my classroom.

Name - Please write your child's name on lunch boxes, backpacks, and any removable clothing, like sweatshirts or jackets.

News - I will be emailing a brief newsletter each month updating parents on classroom goings-on. I will send home a paper copy, as well as the classroom website.

Outside - Weather permitting, we will have recess outside. Please dress your child appropriately including safe shoes for them to run and play.

Parties - Several times during the year we will have class parties and may need additional supplies and volunteers to make them a success. (More on this as we get COVID updates)

Questions - If you have any questions, big or small, please ask. I am able to answer email much quicker than phone calls during the school day. I do ask that you give me 24 hours to answer emails.

Reading – You can help your students' reading skills so much by reading with your child every night. Let him/her read to you or read them a chapter book. It really does make a difference! A Reading log will be sent home, please keep adding to it.

"X- itement!!" Yes I can spell, but 4th grade is bound to be a year full of excitement!!

Year - This year will fly by and will be a time in their lives that they will always remember.

ZZZ's - The average 4th grader goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:30. Remember they are still growing and need much more sleep than adults. We have busy, busy days so please make sure your child is well-rested.
