Daniel Fernandez - Director of Bands
Daniel Fernandez is currently in his twelfth year as director of bands at Clute Intermediate in BISD. The Cougar band under his direction has experienced rapid growth and success. The Clute Symphonic band has won numerous awards at UIL and Best of Class competitions. Prior to his appointment at CIS,Fernandez spent nine years as a band director at McAllen HS in the Rio Grande Valley where he took a leadership role in growing the band program and promoting music education in the local community. In McAllen, his groups earned sweepstakes in UIL band and orchestra contests. Fernandez also enjoys an active Euphonium studio. His students at McAllen and Brazoswood have competed and excelled at region, area and state competitions. Fernandez graduated Magma Cum Laude from the University of North Texas. At North Texas, he studied Euphonium Performance with Don Little and Brian Bowman and was in the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dennis Fisher. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Phi Kappa Lambda music honor society. Fernandez lives in Jones Creek with his wife and five wonderful children.
Thomas Torres - Assistant Director
Thomas Torres is the Assistant Director of Bands and also serves as the woodwind specialist. Originally from Houston Texas, Mr. Torres now lives in Lake Jackson and will be entering his fifth year of teaching at Clute Intermediate. In addition to band director duties, he also maintains a private lesson studio for saxophone students. During his performing career, Mr. Torres has performed with various groups including, The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, Brazosport Community Band, Civic Chorus, Gulf Coast Masterworks Choir, and has also appeared as a guest in the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra and Brazosport Big Band. While performing with these groups, he traveled across 25 states as well as a European Tour in Germany and Austria. Mr. Torres currently holds a Bachelor's degree in instrumental music from Sam Houston State University. While at SHSU, he studied saxophone with Scott Plugge, Masahito Sugihara, and Seth McAdow. In the Wind Ensemble, he was under the direction of Matthew McInturf and Brian Gibbs. Mr. Torres is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Band Masters Association, Tau Beta Sigma, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Aundray Edwards - Percussion Specialist
Aundray Edwards received his Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Houston. Aundray has been a percussion specialist/technician for several marching programs in the Houston and surrounding areas, including Cypress Creek High School (winning PAS call for tapes) as well as Cy-Fair High School. Currently, Aundray resides in Lake Jackson, TX where he is the Assistant Director of Percussion at Brazoswood High School and all feeder programs including Brazoswood High School, Clute Intermediate, and Rasco Middle School in Brazosport ISD.
Aundray has extensive percussion performance experience ranging from DCI to the collegiate world. While attending UH he was a part of all the performing ensembles, including the wind ensemble and symphony orchestra, which both were invited to perform at the Midwest Band clinic in Chicago, Illinois, as well as the Texas Music Educator Association clinic. His further percussion performance experience includes the Moores School Percussion Ensemble winning PAS call for tapes (‘10), and marching snare drum with the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps (‘10).
Durring the indoor season, Aundray currently serves as one of the bass drum technicians for Monarch Independent since 2016. This summer Aundray will be joining the staff at Sacramento Mandarins as a bass drum technician. Aundray has also served as bass drum technician for the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps ('17-'19), Guardians Drum & Bugle Corps ('15-'16), and Mandarins drum and bugle corps (present).
