2024 Nutmeg Passports & Book Bowl

Nutmeg Passports

Students are given the option to own their own Nutmeg Reading Passport! These laminated, magnetized cards are given to students who want to set a personal goal of reading OR listening to all 15 Nutmeg nominees. As students complete each book, the cards are punched and displayed on their lockers to show their progress, welcome conversation, and show off their achievements!

Book Bowl

The Nutmeg Book Bowl is a reading competition for third and fourth grade students. To participate in the competition, students read books from the Nutmeg nominee list for 2024 (see above) . The Nutmeg Children's Book Award is the "Children's Choice" Award for Connecticut.  On game day, students answer questions about the books in an exciting competition!

Who may participate?

Third and fourth graders who are willing to test their Nutmeg knowledge! Students are responsible for reading (or listening to!) all fifteen books and preparing for a variety of trivia questions.

Why should students participate?

The purpose of the Book Bowl is to motivate students to read, monitor their own comprehension, and have fun!

How can I prepare?

Students were introduced to the nominees in May of 2023 and were encouraged to begin reading right away. The JBS library has limited copies of the Book Bowl titles. The Blackstone Library is a great resource for additional copies.

What are the prizes?

This year's competition will be held in May, 2024.

1st place trophies, 2nd place medals and 3rd place ribbons!
