Reading strategies/tools to help us when we are stuck on a tricky word:

• We look at the picture.
• We say the beginning sound when we are stuck.
• We push through a word.
• We point to one word at a time.
• We think about the story and what would make sense.
• Saying kindergarten words in a snap.
• Looking at the picture and the beginning sound together is called cross-checking.
• We try different options.
