MY PERSONAL BACKGROUND
I grew up in Westland, Michigan, the youngest of 5 children. I obtained my teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University and have been teaching since 2010. I have been married to Charlie since 1990. He also worked for the Brandon School District for over 30 years and retired in 2018. We have two daughters, Samantha and Emily. Samantha graduated from CMU & is also a teacher. Fire up Chips! Emily graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design and is a graphic designer. My family is the heart and soul of everything I do. They have supported and encouraged me throughout my teaching career. I am truly blessed to have a healthy, happy family.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, golfing, traveling, playing trivia and spending time with family and friends.
MY PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Teaching is a second career for me. I was a stay-at-home mom until my youngest went to kindergarten, then obtained Parents as Teachers certification through Grand Blanc Schools. For the next three years, I was a parent educator for birth to age 5 children and their families. Following that, I was a Media Technician in the Grand Blanc School District for 5 years in a K-2 building.
While working for Grand Blanc, I returned to Eastern Michigan University to obtain a second degree in education. I completed the teacher certification program in K-8 Language Arts. Since obtaining certification in 2010, I have taught first, fourth, fifth, seventh and second grades.
I am very excited about my new role as the Harvey Swanson Reading Specialist. I look forward to working with our Literacy Leader, Mrs. Mueller and my colleagues to help students grow as readers and writers. My role will primarily involve working with small groups of students and collaborating with teachers on literacy. I strive to provide a learning environment where every child has fun and feels safe. Consistency and trust are two key components to a successful learning environment. When routines and procedures are consistent, students feel safe and valued. In turn, students are more likely to be successful. Working with families to support student literacy is extremely important in student achievement. I look forward to continuing close relationships with Harvey Swanson families.
I am confident that we will all learn and grow together this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me mpinter@brandon.k12.mi.us .
