Robustness of oscillations is crucial in various biological processes such as circadian rhythms. We use a a simplified 2D model to study the generation of oscillations by bistable phosphorylation and show how stochastic resonance improves the robustness of oscillations.
We use bifurcation analysis to study the interaction between negative feedback and bistable phosphorylation in a recent circadian rhythm model, and explore the rich dynamical behaviors originated from the interaction. We are curious whether this interaction alleviates the potential problem of inverse stochastic resonance by generating the multistable structure shown in the bifurcation diagram.
The size of the nucleus scales with cell size so that the nuclear-to-cytoplasmic volume ratio (N/C ratio) remains nearly constant, but fluctuations in the N/C ratio are also observed. We used a simplified gene translation model to study the homeostasis and fluctuations in the N/C ratio.
