Diffusively Coupled Chemical Oscillators in a Microfluidic Assembly

Droplets containing BZ reactants are separated by octane in thin glass capillaries. They are horizontally coupled to their immediate neighbors diffusively via bromine, an inhibitory specie produced in the reaction.

A reaction-diffusion memory device

This movie shows a pattern imprinted on a BZ-AOT microemulsion. Light is projected through a strip of film (mask) containing the pattern onto the photosensitive microemulsion. When the mask is removed, the pattern persists.

Accelerating Waves

This movie shows accelerating waves (Accelerating Waves)  in a BZ-AOT medium. In ordinary aqueous media, BZ waves travel at constant velocity and disappear when they collide with each other rather than bouncing off, as it can be seen in this movie.

Antispirals

In contrast to spirals, antipirals move inward toward their center.
