The Brandeis-Wellesley Orchestra

Neal Hampton, Conductor

AUDITIONS:

Membership is open to students, faculty and staff of Wellesley College, Brandeis University, Olin, Babson, and Bentley via successful audition. Members outside these academic communities are also welcome.

Auditions are held at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. Members who played in the Fall do not need to reaudition in the Spring.

Auditions will take place at Brandeis and Wellesley on the days immediately preceding the first day of class in the Fall. Please see the Orchestra Events Calendar for specific time slots.

After those dates or for entrance in the Spring, contact the director, Neal Hampton, about the possibility of scheduling an audition

WHAT TO PREPARE:

In addition to preparing the excerpts for the audition, new students are asked to upload videos of 1-2 pages of a first movement of a classical concerto or sonata (or an etude or other piece in a medium to fast tempo that shows your ability to play with good rhythm and intonation).

Returning students should prepare only the excerpts for the audition

PREPARING EXCERPTS:

Excerpts can be found here

NB: Use the indicated tempos as a guide, but it is perfectly acceptable to play an excerpt at a slower tempo to ensure the pitches and rhythms are accurate and in control.  Any "extra credit" excerpts are optional
