The Board of Education and administration have aligned this referendum with the final payments from a previous bond, which will be fully paid off in 2025–2026. This timing helps minimize the impact on taxpayers by replacing old debt with new debt at a steady rate.
If voters approve the referendum, the new debt is projected to cost an average of $39/month to the average assessed home in Branchburg.
However, residents are already paying for debt from a previous referendum that will be fully paid off in 2025-2026. The difference between the new debt and the expiring debt is referred to as net tax increase and is what residents can expect to see on their tax bills.
The net tax increase will be an average of $30/month over the 25-year life of the bond.
Certain facility projects when approved through a voter-approved bond referendum, may qualify for state aid. In Branchburg’s case, the state has reviewed the proposed projects and agreed to cover 19% of the total $70 million cost.
That is $13.5 million in funding.
This is money Branchburg residents have already contributed to the state through taxes. With voter approval, we can bring those dollars back to benefit our own schools.
It’s a use-it-or-lose-it opportunity—and only Branchburg voters can decide.
Property taxes are based on a home's assessed value, which is determined by the municipality for tax purposes. This number is not the same as market value—it’s usually lower.
In Branchburg, the average assessed value of a residential home is $567,121, and this figure is used to calculate the local tax impact of the proposed referendum.
