Course Overview / Introduction
Studying Religious Studies at GCSE will enable you to:
Develop your understanding of a variety of religious, non-religious and philosophical views.
Consider different philosophical and ethical arguments.
Understand how beliefs, philosophy and ethics impact on a person’s life.
Gain transferable skills, which you can apply to other written subjects.
Learn and develop the ability to debate articulately.
What will you study?
You will study AQA Religious Studies A:
Component 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices - Buddhism and Christianity.
Component 2: Thematic studies - Existence of God and revelation; religion, peace and conflict; religion and life; religion, crime and punishment.
How is the course assessed?
There are two exams in GCSE RS.
Component 1 - 1 hour 45 minutes worth 50% of the GCSE.
Component 2 - 1 hour 45 minutes worth 50% of the GCSE.
What will you gain from this course?
As well as being a recognised academic GCSE Religious Studies helps contribute towards literacy skills, debating and critical thinking.
What does this lead to?
Students who achieve this qualification could go on to study Philosophy at A-level here at Brakenhale.
Religious studies can be a useful subject for a wide range of jobs, especially those that require you to work with the public or involve helping people, such as the police, social services, law, journalism and medicine.
