How does a school year look like in China?

School year starts in September and ends in mid-July. Classes take place from Monday to Friday and start at 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m., the lunch break lasts 1 hour.

When is it possible to start work?

Starting work is possible at any time throughout the year. At state schools it is usually at the beginning of the semester (August/February), but in private schools you can start at any time.

How long does the administrative process take from acceptance to departure?

It takes approximately 1 month to process a work permit and work visa. The employer guarantees the provision of a work permit and a type Z work visa for each accepted applicant.

When and how is placement at a specific school determined?

The placement of a teacher at a specific school is organized before arriving in China (Changchun City) or at the latest during training period. 

Where and how long does the training take place?

Training begins immediately upon arrival, takes place at the employer's headquarters in Changchun City and lasts approximately 1 week.

Is it necessary to follow the curriculum of the given school?

Each school has its own curriculum and relevant materials available to teachers, but a teacher can also teach according to his own curriculum and use his own teaching materials. Classrooms at schools are very well equipped technically (internet, multimedia, etc.). During the lesson, the teacher has an English-speaking assistant at his disposal if necessary.

Is any vaccination necessary? 

No vaccination is mandatory. 

How is the accomodation organised?

Accommodation is provided and paid for by the employer for the first month in a fully equipped apartment, which has two separate rooms, a living room and a kitchen. Two foreign teachers are accommodated in one apartment, i.e. j. each teacher has his own separate room.

After the first month, the employer provides an allowance for accommodation in the range of 500 to 700 CNY per month, which is about 50% of a commercial rental rate in a higher standard.

Is it possible to place a couple in one place?

It is not possible to guarantee one school, but it is possible to arrange shared accommodation and work in the same city.

When is a teacher entitled to a bonus?

The employer pays a bonus to each teacher after the renewal of the 12-month contract.

What are the approximate costs of food?

•  a meal in a regular local restaurant 15 CNY (2 €)

• a meal in a good restaurant of a higher standard – CNY 40 (€5)

• dinner in a fine dining restaurant – CNY 85 (€11)
