Course Overview
This online course combines Linda Muthama's expertise as a recording artist, classical singer, live band performer, and musical theater artist to offer a comprehensive vocal training experience. By integrating the ABRSM and Rockschool frameworks with Linda's method, students will gain technical excellence, performance skills, and a versatile approach to a wide variety of musical genres.
Course Objectives
Develop strong and healthy vocal techniques for classical, contemporary, and live band performance.
Master music theory and sight-singing for both classical and modern repertoire.
Build stage presence, emotional expression, and confidence, including in virtual environments.
Prepare students for ABRSM and Rock school graded examinations.
Cultivate a broad musical appreciation, spanning classical, popular music, and musical theater.
Course Structure
Module 1: Vocal Technique
ABRSM Approach:
Classical vocal techniques, focusing on breath control, tone production, and resonance
Articulation and diction, particularly for languages such as Italian, German, and French
Rock school Approach:
Contemporary vocal techniques such as belting, dynamics, and vocal improvisation
Proper microphone technique and performance for live and online settings
Linda Muthama Vocal Method:
Exercises for vocal endurance and adaptability for live band and recording sessions
Techniques for emotional engagement and storytelling, drawing on Linda’s experience in musicals and live performances
Training to maintain vocal health for both classical and contemporary singing
Module 2: Repertoire Development
ABRSM Focus:
Classical pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods
Language-specific repertoire for pronunciation and expression in Italian, German, and French
Rockschool Focus:
Modern genres like pop, rock, jazz, and blues
Style-specific coaching for contemporary songs
Linda Muthama Method:
Selection of repertoire tailored to the student’s voice, interests, and goals
Development of interpretation skills for musical theater and live band performance, inspired by Linda’s Popstar experience
Focus on building confidence for both recorded and live performances, with an emphasis on audience connection
Module 3: Music Theory and Sight-Singing
ABRSM Content:
Scales, intervals, and time signatures in classical music theory
Sight-singing techniques for improving sight-reading skills
Rockschool Content:
Application of chord progressions, rhythm patterns, and lead sheets for contemporary music
Linda Muthama Method:
Interactive online exercises that integrate theory into practical performance
Emphasis on understanding theory in real-world contexts, including live band situations and studio recording
Module 4: Performance Skills
Overcoming performance anxiety in both live and virtual environments
Techniques for emotional interpretation and creating a connection with the audience
Stage presence training based on Linda’s experience performing in musicals, live bands, and singing competitions
Practical performance exercises for solo and ensemble settings
Module 5: Examination Preparation
ABRSM Graded Exams:
Repertoire refinement and preparation for viva voce and aural tests
Rockschool Graded Exams:
Preparation for technical exercises and performance delivery in contemporary music
Linda Muthama Method:
Performance scenarios simulating exam conditions, both online and live
Guidance for creating memorable performances that resonate with judges and audiences
Class Schedule
Lesson Duration: 30 minutes, divided into:
Warm-ups and vocal exercises (10 minutes)
Music theory and sight-singing practice (10 minutes)
Repertoire coaching and performance preparation (10 minutes)

No specific materials are required at the start. Resources, exercises, and repertoire will be shared during online lessons.

Regular mock exams conducted virtually to simulate ABRSM and Rockschool standards
