Team:  Welcome Back!  We are excited to meet our new students.  Homeroom teachers will review team and school policies and procedures. Individual core subject teachers will review class expectations, policies, and procedures.

***No School Friday (9/2) or Monday (9/4). Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Math:  We will begin our review unit, "Introduction to 8th Grade Math."  Review topics include order of operations, variables, translations, word problems, and a brainstorm list of terms and symbols for all four operations.  The brainstorm list helps form the foundation for the extensive word problem work we will do this year.

ELA: In ELA, we will read and discuss our first short story, "Flowers for Algernon".  We will also be doing a "one-pager" project based on the books that students chose for summer reading.  

Social Studies: This month in social studies, students will be getting an overview of the Civics Curriculum.  They will be engaging in class activities on the roles, rights and responsibilities of citizens.  

Science:  We will be reviewing Practices of Science including the difference between observation and inference, the use of the metric system, and tools we use in class for quantitative observations. We will also be starting our unit on Contact Forces, focusing on the interrelationship between forces, deformation (temporary and permanent), and material properties in collisions.

Study tip: Set aside a little time every day to review material from your classes.  It will help when you are preparing for tests and quizzes.
