HWS Visiting Artists

Every year we have at least 1 visiting artist. Below is some information about the artists we've seen and links to learn more!

Batavia students are spreading kindness by inventing, creating, and spreading mini roBOTs, with special powers, all over town. Love, Inspiration, Bravery to name a few. They were inspired by artist Gary Hirsch. Here is his link http://www.botjoy.com/ or his Video to learn more about this project and how to make your own! Please post the bot you found to social media (Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter) using #BataviaBots or e-mail theresa.fontana@bps101.net. Whenever one is posted I will add it to this page so we can track where the bots have gone! Please help us make more bots and help fill Batavia with bots of Joy!! He made his on dominoes, but we just cut some free paint sticks up, primed them (spray paint primer or gesso are the easiest), drew our bots on the little wooden rectangles, then added a clear cote to protect them! Thanks for your interest and possibly participating.

Stephen Signa-Aviles: is an artist living and working in greater Chicago. He's a former event/product photographer, lifelong graffiti+hip hop lover, proud husband and father. He says, "My work explores themes of social identity, destruction and reclamation, and celebration vs. critique."

Caroline Tye: She is owner of Dandelion Art Studio. It is an art therapy studio that provides therapeutic, expressive, and creativity programming for children, adolescents, and adults. Their services consist of individual and group sessions, open studio hours, workshops, private events and public speaking engagements. She places a significant value on the belief that creativity and art therapy can be used for growth, transformation, relaxation, entertainment, and healing. She taught the students about what art therapy is and how it can help others. Students got to create feathers for a final canvas mural of wings. The wings symbolize kindness by lifting each other up to go along with the #BPSLiftUp101 goal.

The students each got to add paint to the above painting, the day she presented to our students.

Greta Bell : "I was born to a family who loved art and artists. My parents would bring all of their children(5) on adventures to visit Artists in their studios. We grew up living with and loving art created by craftspeople, folk artists and fine artists.

To be creative, authentic, passionate and hardworking was admired and fostered in my childhood home and propels me to this day. Currently I am working with marionettes, mask making, printmaking and oil painting. I live in the Fox Valley of Northern Illinois with my wonderful family."
