Pembroke Library: December 2020

Welcome to the newsletter for the Pembroke Library! Read below for information and updates on what we're up to in the library each month. If you have any questions or need more information, please email Ms. Julie Green, school librarian, at JGreen@birmingham.k12.mi.us.

Winter Book Bag Surprise!

Thanks to everyone who tried out the library's 1st ever Winter Book Bag Surprise! We had 95 students participate!

Students had the opportunity to fill out a reader interest survey and Ms. Green selected 5 books for each student to check-out over break based on their interests. Thank you to the wonderful team of staff members who helped package them up and get them out the door!

We hope you'll find a new favorite or two!

Battle of the Books: Trivia Sessions

Battle of the Books is in full swing for our 4th and 5th graders! Help your team prepare for Battle of the Books by joining the virtual trivia sessions. Baldwin librarians will ask a multitude of questions about the books so you can test your knowledge! These are completely optional. Registration is required and a Zoom link will be emailed the day of the program.

Please visit Baldwin's website to register and for more information!

What We've Been Up to in the Library

Classroom Book-A-Day

K-2 students listen to a new picture book each day of the week. This helps create community and to introduce students to new authors, illustrators and stories. Do you have a favorite?

Digital Citizenship

Students have been becoming experts on how to be good digital citizens this month! They are learning how to be safe, responsible and respectful when online. Check out this video for a little introduction.

Computer Science Ed Week

Some of our students explored coding in honor of Computer Science Education Week. Check out code.org to try it yourself!

Thank You Public Libraries!

Both Troy Public Library and Baldwin Library are offering curbside pick-up for print materials.

All BPS K-12 students are eligible for a Baldwin Library card. With a Baldwin card, you have the ability to check out print books and access most online databases. Plus, curbside pickup is available during the pandemic.

Go to https://www.baldwinlib.org/get-library-card/ for details, or watch this video for detailed instructions on how to sign up.
