Ms. Olivia Zang received her Bachelor of Music in Education from Wayne State University and her Master of Music in Education from the University of Michigan. Outside of Music Education, Ms. Zang also holds an Education Administration Certificate from Michigan State University.
Ms. Zang is passionate about providing quality foundational music instruction. She has been in BPS for 14 years, and over the years has taught orchestra at all eight BPS elementary buildings, BCS, Derby and Groves. Outside of BPS, Ms. Zang has served as a clinician and conductor in many local youth ensembles including Dearborn Youth Symphony, String Project at WSU, Oakland Youth Orchestras, Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Detroit Civic Ensembles, and MASTA String Camp.
As a violinist, Ms. Zang performs in the two-time Detroit Music Award winning string quartet “Il Segreto”. This ensemble is classically trained musicians who perform on electrified string instruments to play classic rock, punk, funk and anything with a groove. In her free time she loves to travel the world with her music teacher husband Mr. Hummel, geek out at new foodie restaurants, or read a great book while snuggling her cats Molly and Mona.
Ms. Zang is incredibly excited to be a part of the BCS team as the 5th-8th grade Orchestra teacher! If you have any questions or would like to reach out to her, please email OZang@birmingham.k12.mi.us
