Math Overview
We use a variety of resources in math. Due to our adoption of the National Common Core Standards, we have moved away from the traditional textbook to incorporate other resources.
Manipulatives and technology will be integrated into math lessons constantly.
Everyday we teach differentiated lessons to meet individual needs – small groups give students more personalized instruction. It allows those who struggle with concepts extra reteaching and those who are proficient in concepts time for enrichment. The groups are fluent so they are always changing depending on the day and the concept.
The National Common Core has much more emphasis on application and implementation of math concepts rather than rote addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Solving real world problems is the focus.
In teaching with the National Common Core Standards, we will model how to APPLY math concepts to SOLVE these real world problems together. Frustrations may occur. We are here to help!
