This collection was based on a desire to highlight the surreal, or a place just adjacent to reality. Most of the photos shown were captured in some of the forgotten corners of Bowdoin’s campus: the basements, the machine rooms, and the loading docks. Each shot is composed ahead of time and staged and manipulated with the use of directed light. This expression of control also has the effect of shrouding each shot in ambiguity. I strove to create a feeling of gravity that captures attention and inspires closer inspection. All of my work is shot on film, developed, and enlarged by hand.
