Tynan String Orchestra
The Tynan String Orchestra began in September 2017. As a professional violin player and orchestra member, Mrs. Adebayo desired to impart the knowledge of playing string instruments in an orchestra to students at the Tynan, and sought out funding to begin the program. The program began with a donation of violins and violas by Josue Gonzalez, Director of music at the Conservatory Lab Charter School, followed by funding from Ernie Boch’s Music Drives Us Grant. The Music Drives Us Grant funded several violas, cellos, instrument storage equipment, music, and other supplies for the program. Additionally, funding was received from Donors Choose to fund 15 music stands for the program.
The Tynan String Program is composed of students in grades 3-6 who are interested in learning to play the violin, viola, or cello. There are two orchestra classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays which will meet weekly from 8:30-9:15am. Classes are directed by Mrs. Adebayo, the music teacher. Students will learn how to play their instruments in a traditional orchestra format, how to read music, follow complex rhythms, and listen to one another to produce harmonious playing.
