The MyCAP is a multi-year planning process that engages students in authentic postsecondary planning through a continuum of experiences focused on the individual student’s interests, skills, and talents.
When students complete meaningful MyCAP experiences with a trusted adult, they identify the pathways that best fit their learning styles and their unique talents, which careers ignite their imagination, and what kind of training and academic experiences will prepare them for in-demand jobs. By completing the MyCAP students experience the following:
MyCAP puts students in the driver’s seat of their education and future planning. Through MyCAP, students connect what they are learning in school to their interests, goals, and plans after graduation. They also explore opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, dual enrollment, and capstone experiences while building the skills needed to be ready for college, career, and life.
MyCAP experiences are organized around three core domains: Personal-Social Identity, Career Development, and Academic, College & Career Planning. Boston Public Schools also places an additional focus on Financial Literacy across the MyCAP experience.

MyCAP is a whole-school initiative that looks different based on each school’s structure, partnerships, and instructional approach. MyCAP teams are often led by school counselors and may also include administrators, teachers, special education staff, social workers, family liaisons, and community partners. Each school builds a team that makes sense for its students and school community.
