We invite students to have the camera video turned on so we can have an engaging class & participation.
When you are using the video camera it should be positioned to show your face (neck and up)›
Use the same name you use in the classroom, not online nickname
Be on time
Have growth mindset- we are all new to this so let’s just do our best
Take regular breaks from the computer - there are scheduled 5-minute breaks after each class period; give your eyes a rest, stretch, be careful not to overuse arms and hands, move around
Identify others in the room with you-Recognizing we’re potentially in tight spaces, please let your teacher know if there are parents/siblings/children around while you’re in “class”.
Respect others and their opinions.
Be forgiving. If someone says something that you find offensive, mention this directly to the teacher. Remember that the person contributing to the discussion might be new to this form of communication; it could be unintentional. Just talk to your teacher about it.
Consider others’ privacy.
Always ask for permission if you want to forward or share someone’s messages to others.
Think before you hit the send button.
Be mindful of how your words and actions impact others. Think twice before hitting “send” because you can’t take your words back.
Pick the right tone.
Choose the right words to get your meaning across. (Ex: Sarcasm is harder to detect when you read it rather than hearing it.)
Do not type in all caps. All caps is considered shouting or screaming online.
Make concise comments.
Make comments that are to the point.
Stick to the subject. Contributions to a discussion should stay on topic. Don’t waste others’ time by going off on irrelevant tangents.
Avoid inappropriate material.
Don’t forward jokes, “chain letters” or unimportant email/message to other students without their permission.
