Technology Resources

Dear Boston Public Schools Community,

As part of our efforts to continue serving our students, we are providing Chromebooks to students who do not have consistent access to a computer at home. Please read the information below carefully.

Chromebooks are being provided to:

  • Students who only have access to a mobile phone for learning at home.

  • Students who share a computer at home and often do not have access to a computer for homework.

  • Students who do not have a computer that is in working condition for online learning.

If you need a Chromebook for your student, please fill out this form: bostonpublicschools.org/laptop.

  • After filling out the form, you will receive an email and text message to schedule an appointment.

  • Email invitations will be sent out each day as we go through grade levels, starting with high school grade levels first.

  • Distribution of Chromebooks will take place over several days. We want to make sure the process keeps everyone safe and does not create large crowds. Since we have 20,000 devices to distribute, it may take a few days to schedule an appointment.

  • If you do not receive an email for an appointment tomorrow, you will receive an email in the coming days for an appointment.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work urgently to provide our students the resources needed to continue their learning during this period of school closure.

Thank you and stay safe.

Internet Access

Home Internet - We have asked the Internet companies to step up to the plate and they are delivering! Here's what we have so far;

Comcast - All BPS families who are in need of home Internet can get two months of FREE Comcast high speed Internet. No cost to the family. Details here

Cell Phones - All major carriers (including BPS phones) will have unlimited high speed data for the next two months as part of the "Keep America Connected" pledge.

Even more important, most cell phone and home internet companies have pledged NOT to disconnect service for unpaid bills for the next two months. This means that our students will not lose their Internet if their family is unable to pay the bill during this time.

Families can find links to all platforms supported by BPS and used in schools. Your children are very familiar with the Digital Backpack!

All resources on TeacherVision are free to teachers and parents through the end of March. Quite a large selection and variety of worksheets, activities, etc.

Here you will find a variety of online resources for a variety of ages.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is an online classroom where students can access resources and assignments shared by their teachers. Go to classroom.google.com to access Google Classroom. Note: PLEASE USE YOUR BPS EMAIL TO ACCESS GOOGLE CLASSROOM.

BPS primarily uses two applications to host apps and websites for students: Clever and Google Classroom. Students login using their BPS Gmail (______@bostonk12.org) and BPS password. Unsure about your student’s email or password? Check out our tip sheet or contact our BPSTechnology Help Desk: 617-635-9200.

Clever

Clever is a “portal” where you can access many apps used by your student’s school or classroom teacher(s). Visit www.bostonpublicschools.org/backpack to access Clever.
