Hello, and Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to the John Winthrop 1st Grade Family! We are so excited to be

teaching your child this year. We know that this year will be different than

expected and would like to acknowledge the feelings this might cause. In this unique

time, educators are working together to ensure the safest and strongest possible

experience for each child. We want to get to know our families and create a

partnership with them. That means two way communication, because it is important

to stay connected through the school year and to be flexible as we navigate the

unknown together.

My name is Renee Simmons and I will be your childs first grade teacher

this year. We will be working hard this year in reading, writing, and math

and will participate in fun and educational activities. Your child is expected

to attend school daily and on time. We will have a great year discovering new

things and connecting with old friends and making new ones.

We will be using SeeSaw , Talking Points, Clever, and Zoom

for instruction and communication. You will be receiving

messages from us in the coming days via the Seesaw app. This message will

connect you directly with your child’s teacher and is a simple way to ask

questions or communicate with your child’s teacher.

We will be contacting you to schedule a socially distant in person meet and

greet or remote meet and greet during the week of September 21st based

on your preference. More information will be sent.
