Ms. Kathleen Bateman graduated from Boston Latin School (BLS) in 1993. She attended the University of New Hampshire, majoring in Zoology, and she studied wildlife ecology and conservation in Tanzania. She joined the BLS community in 2004 after a career in biotechnology. She earned her Masters of Education from Fitchburg State University in 2007. At BLS she taught biology, environmental science, and chemistry and in 2007 she became the Program Director for Science. From 2009-2015, she took on the additional role of Program Director for Mathematics. During her tenure she cultivated partnerships with Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, parent volunteers and alumni interested in supporting mathematics and science at BLS. She is an avid traveler having visited 34 countries, loves hiking, wildlife and the outdoors. She lives in Boston.
Ms. Paula Bowles joined the Boston Latin School community in 2023 after teaching for many years at Boston Latin Academy, The Snowden International School and Brighton High School. She currently teaches the Facing History course to Classes I and II in addition to the Capstone course to Class I. She attended Boston Public Schools, graduating from Boston Latin Academy in 1994. She majored in Journalism and History at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and began her teaching career in 2000 in Albuquerque where she also earned her M.Ed. at the University of New Mexico. She enjoys traveling whenever she can throughout the US and internationally with her husband, Sean and sons, Quinn '26 and Malcolm '31. She has a special affection for the American Southwest and tries to find her way back to the desert and mountains as often as possible.
