Discussing the death around a family member or close friend/loved one with your child is often a difficult and worrisome (for the adults!). In our current health crisis, it may bring additional worries or concerns to the adults and raise more questions for our children.
Every day, we all experience various levels of feeling worried or nervous. Given the current events, it can be expected that both adults and children may be feeling nervous or uncertain. Individuals who have been experiencing anxiety before school closing, may be feeling even more anxious given the changes in routine and concerns around health.
Just like adults, unexpected changes and events are challenging for our children as well. Also like adults, they may show the stress they're experiencing by acting in ways they may never have before. Through the use of different strategies and structures, we can help our children through these new changes.
Social skills are something that are taught explicitly at JQES since they are skills we learn and aren't naturally born with. While they are best learned in real situations, we can continue maintain or work on our social skills virtually during school closures. The link above will bring you to a list of resources to support this important life skill.
Often, caregivers can become so overwhelmed that they are unaware that they need help and support themselves. We hope that some of the resources within this section are helpful to all of you working so hard for your families. Please, feel free to connect with one of our Student Support team members as well if ever needed!
