As a student-centered school we know that student relationships with peers and adults are crucial to a student's academic and social emotional success at BDEA. Each BDEA student is assigned an advisor who is also a classroom teacher. Each advisor is also matched with a Community Field Coordinator (CFC) - together these adults ensure comprehensive support for their advisory cohort. Students remain with the same advisor throughout their tenure at BDEA until their final Capstone semester - during which the Capstone Teacher becomes the primary advisor.
Advisory meets twice/week on Monday and Thursday and is the home base where students set academic and social-emotional goals, review attendance, receive resources and support, and build community with peers and BDEA adults. Advisors are also responsible for reaching out to families and providing them with updates on student attendance and academics. Twice a year advisors will host in-person family meetings to help ensure students are on track and getting the support and resources they need.
