The Adams School is prepared to deliver an outstanding educational experience in a variety of models during the 2020-21 school year. In planning for the uncertainty and challenges of the upcoming school year, The Adams School has created the following priorities:
the health, safety, and emotional well-being of our students, faculty, and staff
continuity of instruction and student learning
opportunities for the community of students, teachers, and parents to connect
In maintaining these priorities, we will be adaptable, innovative, and flexible. We ask for your patience and support as the evolving pandemic might require changes to our model of delivery and school operation procedures. We are committed to being timely, thorough, and transparent regarding our plans, policies, and any change to school operations.
The Samuel Adams School constructed this plan carefully, thoughtfully, and thoroughly in accordance with guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), and the Massachusetts COVID-19 Center.
The plans and policies outlined below have been developed according to the current Massachusetts health metrics. These plans could be amended to comply with any change to public health metrics, updated guidelines, or order of the Governor’s Office.
Our mission is to ensure all students participate in a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. We are committed to creating equitable culturally responsive learning experiences that engage students in opportunities to think critically, create, and showcase their strengths across multiple disciplines. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all of our children and families while ensuring each individual feels valued and cared for.
Safe - We focus on providing a space where we feel safe and valued.
Helpful - We work together and take care of each other.
Inclusive - We support everyone in feeling welcome and included.
Positive - We will maintain a positive growth mindset.
The Adams School will design hybrid learning centered on fulfilling our mission, engaging our students through relationships and values, while providing equitable high-quality education. We will do this by embracing the opportunity to create something new, adopting a growth mindset, measuring what matters, and continuously improving together.
Following the guidance of DESE, the Boston Public Schools has developed a plan for safe return that blends in-person instruction and remote learning, and a full remote learning model.
Boston Public Schools will offer both remote and hybrid learning choices this school year, as well as a combination of the two. The hybrid model blends in-person instruction and remote learning, Some students learn in-person while others learn remotely.
Start on September 21st for all students in all grades.
The faculty shared strategies and structures that worked well during the last spring's instructions, and the parent feedback, are reflected in our Remote Learning Plans.
Every kid will be provided with a Chromebook.
Every student will receive a Backpack kit with school supplies
Parents will receive instruction and support to help their children.
Based on the public health orders, the Hybrid Model will start on October 1st.
The families who choose Remote Learning keep having their child online only.
The district is creating student lists for cohorts A, B, and C for the families who choose Hybrid mode.
A normal week for Cohorts A and B, will be three days online and two days in the school. Just a small part of the student population will be at school at once to help to keep the social distance.
We must follow a series of hygiene and cleaning protocols to create a healthy environment for the in-person portion of the hybrid model.
The proposed dates for returning to school can be found in the chart below.
