All you need to join any of these classes is simply yourself and a smile. While bringing a mat isn't necessary, you're welcome to bring one if you'd like! It's also a good idea to bring some water to stay refreshed.
My brother, Jack, and I, Tess Kane, are collaborating on a project for the Timothy "Doc" Cook Scholarship. Growing up with a yoga teacher for a mother inspired us to explore an unexpected connection — yoga and PTSD. It may seem like an unusual pairing, but research has shown that yoga and meditation can be powerful tools in easing PTSD symptoms. Best of all, this event is open to everyone, not just veterans or those affected by PTSD.
The Timothy “Doc” Cook Scholarship was created to honor Timothy “Doc” Cook, a Navy medic from South Boston who served in Iraq and helped save many lives. After returning home, he struggled with PTSD and passed away in 2013. In his memory, his family started the foundation to raise awareness about PTSD and support veterans. The scholarship gives students the chance to earn money for their education while also learning about the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder and the importance of helping others.
