Below are a few important things to know about 2nd grade

ELA

We study one unit per nine weeks. Each day, your child will be reading books on their independent reading level as well as hearing grade level texts from me. They will be meeting with me in small groups to build their fluency and comprehension. They will also be writing each day and learning to edit their writing.

MATH

In 2nd grade, your child will be expected to complete 4 ZEARN lessons per week. He/She has a ZEARN Binder that includes all of their notes and problem sets which are usually completed in class. We use Reflex which is a computer program that allows students to practice addition and subtraction fact fluency. In order for Reflex to be effective, students must earn at least 3 green lights per week.

Science/Social Studies

We will be studying several topics in Science and Social Studies this year. Keep an eye out for completed activities in your child's take home folder.

Homework

Reading- Reading log sent home as need

Spelling- It is suggested that your child study their Spelling and Fluency words each night for their weekly test.

Math- I send optional homework home every Monday. These packets go along with the lessons we will be studying in Math each day that week. If you would like an answer key, let me know, I'll be happy to send one home with your child. Reflex is also a great tool to use at home to practice fluency.
