Accelerated Reader

Curtis students will participate in the Accelerated Reader program each quarter. At the beginning of the year and at various checkpoints, students will take the STAR Reading Test. This test allows teachers to set a challenging, yet obtainable, reading goal based on each student's independent reading level. Reading goals are set for 20 minutes a day, 80% reading comprehension, and an individualized point goal determined by the student's independent reading level. Students meeting the point goal for the quarter will receive 5 bonus points in reading; students meeting BOTH the point goal and the comprehension goal will receive 10 bonus points in reading! Students must meet both goals to receive the Accelerated Reader Award each grading period. Students are only able to AR test during school hours, however, parents/guardians can monitor progress at home using AR Home Connect.

Parents/Guardians can monitor student AR points and comprehension scores by logging into AR Home Connect. It is the same login information each child uses for AR. Parents/guardians can also sign up for email notifications of AR test results!

Book finder allows anyone to search books to view book level, point value, quiz number, and interest level. This is a great tool for determining the AR level/point value of books at home.
