Those students who pass the screening process will then attend a four-day clinic on cheer which will lead to a tryout before a panel of judges. Cheerleaders will be judged on the following 100 point basis: Appearance/Entrance – physique and energy/personality (ten points), Jumps – toe touch and one other optional jump - height of jump/flexibility (ten points), Tumbling – (Cheerleader’s choice) correct form, straight legs, landing with feet together (five points), Individual Cheer – volume, motions, sharpness, memorization (twenty-five points), Group Stunt – proper technique and physical ability (twenty points), Group Chant – volume, motion, sharpness, rhythm, memorization, uniform (ten points), Dance (girls only) – motions, sharpness, rhythm, memory, facials (twenty points), Partner stunt (guys only) – proper technique and physical ability and instinct and willingness to protect flyer (twenty points). The top cheerleaders will be chosen to become an Airline High School Varsity Cheerleader based on a natural cut, formed through the graphing of individual scores. A specified number of cheerleaders is not a factor in the tryout process, meaning that there is not a set number that we are looking to put on the cheer team.
