LOUISIANA STUDIES

I am so excited to be your teacher this year! We are going to learn so much about our great state of Louisiana!

Welcome Students!

  1. Please join Google Classroom using the codes listed below.

  2. Once in Google Classroom, click on CLASSWORK at the top of the page, then see TOPICS on the left hand side. Click on the unit we are currently studying. The daily agenda will be labeled by the date of the week. You will find all of your lessons, SLIDES, study guides & weekly information here. Check OnCourse for grades daily.

  3. Students received a paper copy syllabus outlining this class on the first week of school. You can find materials needed in the syllabus, class expectations and behavior consequences discussed with students here. ***See Syllabus below.

  4. Students will receive a paper copy Louisiana Studies UNIT WORKBOOK for each unit we study that has been printed by the school district. This workbook contains many resources like primary sources and historical documents that go along with that unit's lessons. Students should put this paper copy workbook in their Social Studies binder and bring it to class daily.

  5. Assessments: We have a variety of assessments like tests, quizzes, presentations, etc. Study guides will be given to students several days in advance. Check Google Classroom for the answer keys to the study guides that will be posted the night before the test. Study Guides will count as a grade to be completed accurately before each Unit Test.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

This is my 23rd year of teaching! I graduated from Airline High and Louisiana Tech. I taught Social Studies in Garland, TX, Caddo Parish, and the last 10 years at HMS. I’ve been married for 16 years and have 2 children. Travis is an 9th grader at HHS & Claudia is a 7th grader at HMS. Our family loves to hunt & fish and spend time outdoors. One of our favorite adventures was shark fishing in Florida! This summer we fished off the Gulf Coast in South Louisiana. We have 4 dogs--2 Labs and 2 Jack Russell puppies. I also love supporting the BUCS as the HMS Cheerleader Coach. I love to learn HISTORY & hear stories from the past. Lastly, I believe in hard work, caring about others, and I'm proud to be an American!
