JOHN HILL SCHOOL

Weekly Update 3/25/22

JUNIOR BOMBERS EARN THEIR WINGS

Congratulations to our students who have most recently "earned their wings" as Junior Bombers. These students have shown exemplary character and made noteworthy contributions within our school community. We are truly appreciative of their efforts and impacts as well as those of all of our students who make JHS the wonderful learning community that it is! Keep up the great work, Junior Bombers!

Sprinkle Kindness!

This week, Mrs. Mulcahy's class read the book "The Jelly Donut Difference, Sharing Kindness with the World" by Maria Dismondy. The story tells of two siblings who learn to be kind to each other as well as the people around them. Mrs. Mulcahy's class designed donuts and decorated them with sprinkles of kindness. The sprinkles represented kind acts that people can do for one another. Each student wrote about how they can show kindness to a friend.

5th grade is out of this world!

Students observed the daily patterns that occur during Earth's rotation. We talked about day and night, shadows and moon phases in class. We all had fun determining the length, direction and time of day that shadows occur.

The Great Sleepover Challenge!

Students in Fourth Grade used real-world scenarios to solve equivalent fraction equations. Students had to solve problems involving time spent at two different slumber parties and all of the different pieces to them! Students computed equivalent fractions based on 60 minutes, solved pizza party equations, and figured out ratios of different designs of sleeping bags! Way to go Fourth Grade!

Matisse Masters!

Ms. Faruolo’s 4th grade art students have completed their Scissor Painting Installation Art inspired by artist: Henri Matisse. Students were asked to create an artwork using only scissors and construction paper. Each class created and designed their own “Class Installation Artwork” as a group. This required the students to use cooperation and collaboration along with communication to get the job done. As you can see, this was accomplished by all. Great job 4th graders.

Wellness Wins

This week, as part of professional training, the teachers at John Hill School got to participate in wellness activities. This is a continued school effort to bring wellness into the community and the classroom. New and innovative lessons and ideas with Social Emotional Learning are being incorporated into the school day with Wellness Wednesdays and mindful practices by students and teachers alike!

take flight art talk

Middle school students at JHS partnered with Lehigh University and participated in an art talk during TAKE Flight. Students explored identity, community and leadership through art. Students were led through a guided conversation about individual and collective identity. Students engaged their critical thinking skills as they viewed works of art from diverse time periods and places.
