JOHN HILL SCHOOL

WEEKLY UPDATE 3/20/20

THE JHS TEAM REMAINS COMMITTED TO EACH STUDENT'S SUCCESS!

As the JHS team waved goodbye to students last week, we felt prepared and excited to work with students remotely. This past week proved just how extraordinary our learning community is. Faced with a challenging situation, everyone rose to the occasion. Famous children's author Shel Silverstein wrote, “Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.” If someone would have said two months ago that all of our staff and students would be teaching and learning remotely and the transition would be close to seamless, people would have said, "It's impossible, it won't happen." But it did! It happened because of the cooperation of the community and our students and the passion for teaching from our staff. It was a reminder that "Anything can be" for our students at John Hill School!

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS MARCH ON!

Just because we have transitioned to a virtual mode of operations, doesn't mean we can't still enjoy our morning announcements! Thanks to Mrs. Perez and some special staff guests, our students enjoyed morning announcements this week and will continue to do so going forward! They are linked each day from our respective Elementary and Middle School Learning Portals.

Shared Knock Knock Jokes

KNOCK, KNOCK JOKES SPREAD SOME HUMOR

We all need a little extra humor during this time! Elementary students and JHS community members were encouraged to share their favorite knock, knock jokes via Google Form this week. A collection of submitted jokes are linked here for your pleasure. Additional jokes make still be submitted by completing this form.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

On any normal school day, we are privileged to learn and grow in an absolutely beautiful school building. Since we can't come together at this amazing place right now, we thought it would be fun to offer a challenge to all of our young artists to develop your own representations of John Hill School. It could be drawing, a painting, a model, or a representation of any other kind that shows off our school in an artistic or creative way. Visit the Elementary Learning Portal for more information.

DAILY ATTENDANCE REMAINS IMPORTANT

During each day of remote instruction, attendance remains a requirement. Attendance can be logged by typing in a student's 5 digit pin in the remote scan box of the Attendance Page on the Learning Portal. This attendance scan serves as verification of your child's participation in the learning activities that have been designated for the day. We ask that students log in by 9 am each day.

LEARNING PORTALS SERVE CENTRAL PURPOSE

In transitioning to remote instruction, we understand that many challenges await and that consistent and simple lines of communication will be critical to our success. For that reason, we have created learning portals for our respective elementary and middle school grades. These portals will serve as the central location to complete daily attendance, access an overview of daily/weekly assignments, attain links to Google Classroom and Gmail accounts, and to receive other important information and resources. The Learning Portals are linked below and should be accessed on a daily basis.
