AUTHORS VIRTUALLY JOIN US FOR WORLD READ ALOUD DAY

The 12th annual World Read Aloud Day was held February 3rd this year. Many authors have volunteered their time to do visits with schools to read aloud and discuss the craft of writing. Here at John Hill School, we were fortunate to have three authors virtually visit thanks to the coordination provided by Mrs. Sudak. The third grade welcomed author Debbie Dadey (pictured) who has written the funny Bailey School Kids series. Ms. Dadey spoke about her writing process, research, and her latest project. Fourth grade students engaged with Alison Pearce Stevens, author and scientist. She contributed to many of the popular National Geographic fact series such as Weird but True - Ripped from the Headlines. Fifth grade enjoyed a visit from Liesel Shirtliff, author of the (Fairly) True Tales and Time Castaway Series, who spoke about finding your voice as a writer.

We are truly grateful for the authors who offered time to spend with our students and to Mrs. Sudak for arranging the visits!

ALL GRADE LEVELS RETURN TO JHS

It was a pleasure to welcome students from all grade levels back to the building this Thursday and Friday! Next week, we welcome A cohort students on Monday and Tuesday. B Cohort students will join us Wednesday and Thursday. For more information about the hybrid cohort model and schedule, please visit the JHS Hybrid Cohort Model Website.

CHROMEBOOKS FOR IN BUILDING STUDENTS

Last week, an email was sent to families of in-building learners who do not yet have a school issued device. We ask that all families in receipt of the email complete this Technology Agreement Form. This will allow us to issue a device to your child when they come for in person learning. Once the device is issued, we ask that students bring it to school fully charged each day that they come to learn in the building.

JHS STUDENTS EARN THEIR WINGS

Throughout the month of January, we focused upon the quality of soaring as Junior Bombers by setting, working toward, and accomplishing goals. As we have done each month, students were provided an opportunity to self reflect upon their actions and efforts and to earn their wings in the process. We also completed our monthly spirit wear drawing including student names that had been nominated by staff members and peers. Congratulations to Tehreem for being selected as this months spirit wear recipient and thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this opportunity!

INFORMATION REGARDING VALENTINE'S DAY

Unfortunately, due to health and safety concerns, students will not be able to bring in and exchange valentines with each other this year. Holiday classroom activities may be planned in homerooms but will not involve the distribution of materials from student to student due to our efforts to reduce shared contact services and to socially distance.
