8th Grade students CREATING MURAL

As the T.A.K.E. Flight program continues to expand, several 8th grade students are working on a project to create an inspirational mural on the 3rd floor of JHS. The students' plan is to create a sunset backdrop with a quote painted over the sunset by Brian Skavnak on Being the Nice Kid. The paint was generously donated by Mr. Aquino. The photos below show the progress of the project over the last few weeks.

Elementary students excel in "brain bowl"

JHS sent two teams to the regional "Brain Bowl Trivia Bee" this week accompanied by Mr. Sabatino, our enrichment facilitator. Brain Bowl is a knowledge-based competition involving teams from throughout the region. Of the two teams representing JHS, one finished in 5th place and the other brought home some hardware with a 2nd place finish in their respective divisions! In fact, JHS was a mere 5 points away from claiming the top spot. We are very proud of all the participants that represented our school!

4th GRADE Creates bridge structures

As part of a 4th grade enrichment activity, students were grouped throughout the grade level to design various types of bridges and to apply knowledge of engineering features. They constructed models using straws and tape as primary resources while putting their critical thinking and creativity to work. Well done students!

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION & PHELPS CONSTRUCTION DONATE CPR TRAINING KIT

The American Heart Association partnered with Phelps Construction to help donate Anytime CPR in Schools Training Kits to John Hill School. The goal of the program is to increase the amount of bystanders that can be trained in CPR within the Boonton community. The training incorporates the very latest science and provides students with the necessary tools to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR and choking relief. Some of the 8th grade students were able to take part with the hands on experience by getting direct training from an American Heart Association representative. These kits will be facilitated in a fun and interactive way for students in their health classes.
