Weekly Update 10/9/20

JUNIOR BOMBERS SHOW RESPECT AND DISPLAY THEIR SPIRIT!

This week, we celebrated our Week of Respect at John Hill School. In addition to lessons centered upon the theme of being "Stronger Together," we also held daily spirit days and student shared pictures of their participation. This included themes of dressing to show we are Stronger Together, Dreaming of Kinder World, Celebrating Uniqueness, Making Sure Everyone Counts, and Showing Bomber Pride! #StrongerTogether#WeekofRespect#JHSrocks!

Week of Respect 2020

6th grade has a message to share

Our 6th graders put together a video to help spread a message that reinforces the idea of respecting yourself and each other! We are certainly "Stronger Together" and as Bombers we always SOAR together. Thank you 6th graders - you are an example of why JHS rocks!

gRADE 3 STUDENTS PUT sTEM SKILLS TO WORK!

This week third grade engineers were invited to do a STEM paper chain challenge using the criteria of making the longest paper chain possible with the constraints of only using the given materials supplied. Students used powers of observation, creativity, persistence, and knowledge of the design process as they completed the activity.

Middle School Assembly

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Virtual Game Show assembly for our middle school students on October 14th. The Virtual Game Show is designed to educate and motivate students with lots of participation, exciting challenging trivia questions, and some friendly competition. This live and interactive online game show uses multi-media trivia to combine team spirit, character education and curriculum enforcement. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this event!

Elementary School Assembly

Students in grades 3-5 will get to know Thomas Edison through a presentation entitled, "The Wizard of Menlo Park" provided on October 23rd. The program is part of Patrick Garner's History's Alive program and will include a recording of the presentaton for families to enjoy together along with a time for students to enjoy during the school day. The program will also include an opportunity for students to register for a question and answer session. More details will be provided in the coming weeks. We are very grateful to the PTA for providing this opportunity for us to look forward to.

Mid-Marking Period POint REACHED

We have now reached the midpoint of the first marking period. Teachers have been reaching out as concerns about student progress arise and we encourage parents to do the same as continued communication will remain central to our success. For students in grades 4-8, the most up to date grades are available on the Realtime Parent Portal.

Important Reminders

-Please remember to answer the Parent Questions in the Realtime Parent Portal. The questions will help us to best support our students instructionally and will also grant permission for upcoming assemblies etc. If you have any trouble answering the parent questions, please refer to this help document that describes the process step by step.

-Monday October 12th is a regular school day for all staff and students.
