Weekly Update 6/4/21

JHS R.O.C.K.S. while coming together to create art installation

Our learning community came together today to celebrate how we are all a piece of the puzzle that makes JHS R.O.C.K! This capstone project for the year also aligned with June's "Earn Your Wings" theme of teamwork. It was wonderful to SOAR together today . Every single member of the learning community was given a puzzle piece to decorate with clouds that captured what JHS means to them or why JHS R.O.C.K.S. In typical JHS fashion, everyone came together to create this beautiful art installation. Throughout this entire year, we could not be more impressed by the ways members of our learning community were Resilient, made the most of Opportunities, Committed to goals, showed Kindness always, and Soared together! This project is one special way that we were able to represent those efforts and the pride we have as members of John Hill School! Thank you to everyone who participated and especially Ms. Rogers for organizing this event!

Students Earned their wings by demonstrating courage in May

It is hard to believe that it's June! As we close out another month at JHS, it offers the opportunity for students to self reflect upon the ways that they have excelled this year and to once again "earn their wings" as Junior Bombers! The included video includes a quick reflection, PTA-sponsored spirit wear drawing, and shares what June's theme is! We could not be more proud of our students and all the ways they continue to soar together!

Summer LEARNING PORTAL Portal

It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks left in the school year. As we look forward to the summer months and the school year ahead, it is critical that students keep their academic skills sharp. That is why we are finalizing a summer learning portal with recommended activities for students to partake in by grade level. This will be shared with students and families next week.

STANDARDS-BASED REPORT CARD INFORMATION SESSION SCHEDULED

With a central focus of promoting optimal growth in the elementary grades, we are excited to be transitioning to a standards-based report card model. Grades 3 and 4 will be implementing standards-based report cards for the first time next year. Grade 5 implementation will begin in 2022-2023. A parent information session regarding this transition will be hosted by Mr. Valle on June 14th at 6:30 pm via Google Meet: meet.google.com/zjy-rqof-exq.

For information about standards-based report cards and our plans at John Hill School, please visit the Charting Learning Paths website.

8th Grade "Night Under the STars"

We are so excited to host a "Night Under the Stars" for our 8th graders tonight! We are celebrating RAIN OR SHINE! We will have the students outside as much as possible but do have backup plans in the event we need to move any portion of the evening inside. Students should definitely bring a mask they are comfortable with and should still bring their chairs! Please take a moment to fill out this form that includes permissions and important information so that we can ensure a safe, fun filled event! Additionally, students will need to have completed a health screener to be able to participate. You can find the screener here. If you are unable to print and bring with you, we will have hard copies at JHS.

8th grade graduation/cap & gown info

The JHS graduation will be on June 15th at 6:30pm at the BHS stadium. We will continue to push out information as the date draws near, but at this time families are able to attend without a capacity limit. The event will also be livestreamed for those not able to be in attendance.

Caps and gowns have arrived! They have been sent home with our in person learners. Please remove the gowns from the bags and follow the care instructions. Virtual learners may stop by to pick up their cap and gown through June 11. Please stop by between 7AM -12PM, or reach out to Ms. Beiermeister if an alternate time is needed.

KIDS HELPING KIDS DRIVE GOING STRONG!

The “Kids Helping Kids Snack Food Collection” is a huge success so far. With one week left to collect, the students and staff at JHS have collected 2,238 snacks, and 50 additional non-perishable food items for donation.

As of now, we can help provide snacks for almost 3 weeks at Loaves and Fishes Community Food Pantry. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. We have met and exceeded our original goal of providing a week’s worth of snacks to the pantry!

Have a wonderful weekend!
