JOHN HILL SCHOOL

weekly update 12/13/19

STUDENTS SPREAD JOY OF THE SEASON AS THEY SHARE MUSICAL TALENTS

It was a busy week at the John Hill School Concert Hall as both elementary and middle school students performed at their respective Winter Concerts. We are grateful to all of our friends and families who were able to join us for these opportunities for our students to showcase their talents. Our students performed wonderfully and reminded us yet again of the extraordinary spirit and talent that exists within our community. Special thanks to Mrs. Houser and Ms. Manca for their remarkable efforts leading up to our concerts!

STUDENT COUNCIL & STUDENTS FOR CHANGE TEAM UP TO MAKE THE SEASON BRIGHT

Boonton's generosity was on impressive display over the past few weeks as donated toys poured into the office from classrooms throughout John Hill School and School Street School. As a result, two full carloads of toys were donated for families in need. As part of this initiative, homerooms participated in a fun-filled competition to see which could donate the most toys. Congratulations to Ms. McCue's class for earning this recognition and thank you to all of our families who donated so generously!

JUNIOR BOMBERS HIT THE HARDWOOD FOR START OF WINTER SPORTS SEASON

John Hill School's Girls and Boys Basketball Bombers started their seasons with excellent team displays in their opening games. Following their first two games of the season, the boys are 2-0 and the girls are 1-1. Both teams are set the take the court again this afternoon.

BAYER VOLUNTEERS FOSTER STEM CONNECTIONS @ JHS

3rd and 5th grade students had an extraordinary opportunity to work with volunteers from Bayer this week. In classroom sessions, students engaged in varied hands-on learning activities in which they had the chance to observe science in action and deepen their understanding of the underlying concepts that they witnessed.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL HOUR OF CODE

Students in grades three, four, and five completed a "Code Your Own Hero" activity using the Scratch coding program. This activity was completed as part of the "Hour of Code" initiative that takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. Learning computer science helps nurture problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and creativity. Mrs. Sudak did an excellent job of organizing this experience for our students and our students embraced the coding challenges presented to them in impressive fashion!
