Dear Boonton Bomber Families,

It was a busy week at Boonton Public Schools! Thank you to our administrative team, teachers, and all of our staff members involved in hosting Back to School Nights throughout the week. And thank you to all of our parents and family members that were able to join us "back at school." If you were not able to attend but have questions about your child's experience at school, please do not hesitate to contact members of our team. We value continuous collaboration and look forward to working collectively to make this the most successful year that we can for every student in our care.

In this week's bulletin, you will find featured updates about BHS participation in a global art installation, our September Staff Member of the Month, and important news from our schools. Thank you for taking time to view and for your continued support of our schools!

Sincerely,

Thomas Valle
Acting Superintendent

PINWHEELS FOR PEACE

International Day of Peace was recognized throughout the world this week. At Boonton High School, students took part in a related global art and literacy project, Pinwheels for Peace, by placing pinwheels with messages of peace around the grounds of Boonton High School.

Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, of Coconut Creek, Florida. In the first year, groups in over 1,325 locations were spinning pinwheels and there were approximately 500,000 pinwheels spinning throughout the world. Most recently, over 4.5 million pinwheels were spinning in over 3,500 locations, including the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

At Boonton High School, English teacher Jennifer Tambakis and a dedicated team of staff members coordinated the Pinwheels for Peace project to be showcased for our very own community. Students created pinwheels of all shapes and sizes and wrote thoughts about peace, tolerance, and living in harmony with others. Students also included drawings, paintings, and collages to visually express their feelings. The spinning of our students' pinwheels in the wind helped to spread thoughts of peace throughout our school community and served as a shared sentiment with others around the world!

STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Just as Ms. Walker's preschool class was settling into their lunch period one day this week, a big SURPRISE announcement came through the door. Ms. Walker had just been named Boonton Public School's September Staff Member of the Month! The recognition comes through the sponsorship of our local ACME Supermarket and we are grateful for their support in celebrating our extraordinary team members. Ms. Walker serves as a preschool teacher at John Hill School and, among the many positive qualities noted in her nominations, were reflections about the remarkably positive approach she brings to her work with students and her continuous efforts to contribute to the larger school community. Thank you and congratulations, Ms. Walker!

If you would like to submit a nomination for a future ACME Staff Member of the Month, you can do so using this link.
