This week "Super Readers" learned that when a book's pattern changes we don't quit, we activate our other powers instead, including sound power, picture power, reread power and our favorite power-----partner power. Of course, we also employ partner power during Writer's Workshop and math.

This collaboration between students allows us to think independently and then share our thoughts with a partner of varying abilities.Collaboration not only encourages all learners to be engaged while holding them accountable, it also helps us to keep an open mind and celebrate each other's unique perspectives and ideas!

First Grade
The first graders continue to read, read, read and are half way through Running Start. They have read a whopping grand total of 2,894 books thus far! Way to go first graders! In Math, students are learning to compare numbers, adding with a 120 chart, and using nonstandard units to measure. They continue to sound out and build words with glued sounds, blends, and words with five sounds. Our readers are finishing their nonfiction unit and are beginning their next adventure on how to be the boss of their own reading. In Writing Workshop, they are learning how to convince a reader of their opinion by using many reasons with details. The students continue to explore sound and light in Science and are studying maps and globes in Social Studies. What a busy week it has been!

This has been a busy and productive week in second grade! In writing, students had the chance to share their fabulous writing pieces packed with various craft moves. The students have been working on adding similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, personification, alliteration and repetition into their writing. We are so impressed with the work they have been producing! In reading, students have been working diligently with their series book clubs! The students mapped out steps to help them achieve their common reading goal. In math, we are finishing up mastering triple digit subtraction with regrouping. We are excited to dive into our next math skill...money and time!

Kindergarten completed their Pablo Picasso project this week. They learned that Pablo Picasso liked to paint distorted faces. The students first made a self portrait, then they cut their portrait into sections. They painted a colorful background piece where they glued the sections of their portrait creating their own version of a distorted face.
