The following website contains important information/advice to help you with the process of writing your college essay: www.essayedge.com/files/teachers/essayhelppacketshort.pdf
All assignments are due on the first day back to school. NO EXCEPTIONS! Assignments are worth 15% of the first marking period grade.
Essay(s) must be typed and follow MLA format.

Explanations should be at least 250 words for each school. If not applying to college, you must research and write an essay that outlines and explains a short term and long term plan for yourself. (20 pts.)

3. List 3 social/emotional goals for yourself and explain in detail (at least one paragraph for each goal) how you plan to achieve them. ( ex. (MindTools.com website) (15 pts.)
4. Write a (500 word) college essay based on either a topic from your first choice school’s application (which can be found on their website) or choose one for of the following topics which have been taken from the 2017-18 common application website. (50 pts.)
-Some students have a background, identity, interest or talent that is so meaningful that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
-The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience.
-Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
-Describe a problem you have solved or a problem you would like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
-Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
-Describe a topic, idea or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
-Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you have already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design. (www.commonapp.org).
