KINDERGARTEN NEWS!

"BEE" Kind!

This week readers shared what they knew about their nonfiction "expert" topic! What an impressive plethora of information. Charlie shared the fact that the dwarf planet Eris is 10 billion miles from the sun! We also learned that nursing is a term used to describe how animals get milk from their mothers, dragonflies grow inside a nymph, a sunflower's height ranges from 6 to 14 feet depending on their variety, newborn kangaroos are only the size of a jellybean and------T Rex's jaws were so powerful they could bite through bones! Wow!

The more we read, the more we know. Rest assured, the kindergarten team also recognizes the importance of play. Play nurtures our imagination and helps us learn to problem solve, cooperate, and become creative thinkers! We had fun playing based on our nonfiction texts. We finished 'Go Math' chapter 9 today and were assessed on two-dimensional shape recognition---next up: three-dimensional shapes, persuasive writing celebration and POETRY!! Why not share a favorite poem or two this weekend?

Bringing Books to Life... and Acting Them Out!

FIRST GRADE NEWS!

It’s been a productive week in first grade! Our math stars have shown us all they know about 3-Dimensional shapes. We challenge you to continue to look out for 3-D shapes all around you—in school, at home, in nature, etc.! Our rad readers worked on creating book reviews to inspire others to read some of our favorite books! We have really been diving into exploring the characters in our stories. Our wildly talented writers have let their creativity SHINE throughout this realistic fiction unit. The students have produced their very own series collections that are true masterpieces! In Fundations, students have been decoding and spelling VCE and multisyllabic words! These first graders continue to impress us each and every day! May is right around the corner!

SECOND GRADE NEWS!

The Second Graders continued to work hard in all subject areas. We are working on Chapter 10 in Math, focusing on data, learning about picture graphs and bar graphs. We have been taking lots of surveys using tally marks for our favorites before we complete our graphs. In Writer’s Workshop, we are continuing to improve our narrative writing by focusing on meaningful and special moments in our lives. We are working on stretching out our small moments by adding details. In Reader’s Workshop, we continued our mini unit: Reading & Role Playing: Fairy Tales, Folktales, Fables and Fantasy. We are stepping into the world of different characters’ shoes, feeling, thinking, and acting as they do, in order to gain a deeper understanding of who they are and learn the roles of characters in order to get the “big picture” view of all the story elements. In Social studies we are learning about maps and landforms. We appreciate all the support from our families.
